Michael Williams former St Jago distance runner, who was on the 1987 winning team. He was a power runner but also a very strategic runner, hence why he was so successful and dominant at his events. He won the class 2 800 & 1500m at the 1988 championship. Prior year he came second in the 1500m, however, in 1989 he went on and won the 1500m and a close second in the 800m. His alias Gong, echoes the sound and presence of this young school boy when he runs. He was fearless, determine, tenacious and confident about winning. He leaves a spirit and legacy for many runners at St Jago High, one that inspires and empowers younger athletes, when they hear the name “Gong”.
